“Trauma is a fact of life. It does not, however, have to be a life sentence”

Peter A. Levine

This video from EMDR International Association briefly explains EMDR therapy

We often think about trauma as a huge event that occurs in someone’s life such as combat, a sexual assault, a car accident, or something similar. Most people don’t think that the bullying they were a victim of in middle school, or that parent telling them that they’re stupid and useless qualifies as a trauma because “others had it worse”, or “I should be able to suck it up.” You may think that you can’t change what happened in the past so what’s the point in revisiting it. I’m here to tell you that all of that qualifies as trauma and the point of revisiting it is to reprocess and free yourself from being held hostage by the pain that your trauma continues to cause to this day.
